Yorkshire law firm McCormicks Solicitors has appointed five new Partners.
The new Partners, who were all previously Senior Associates at the Harrogate-based firm, are Philip Edmondson, Lewis Goodwin, Elaine Lightfoot, Peter Minnikin and Heather Roberts.

Philip Edmondson is Head of the Commercial Litigation team and has received personal recommendations in the independent UK Legal 500 and Chambers guides, as a Leader in the Field.
He has a wide range of experience across a large spectrum of commercial litigation work, including claims involving breach of contract, sports disputes, insolvency, professional negligence, partnership disputes, landlord and tenant, dilapidations claims, HM Land Registry and matters with multi-jurisdictional elements.
Lewis Goodwin is a specialist in Corporate and Commercial law, with significant experience of a full range of Corporate and Commercial matters across a broad range of sectors including Mergers, Acquisitions, Joint Ventures, Private Equity Investment, Banking, Franchising, Shareholders’ and Partnership Agreements, Agency and Distribution and Employee Share Schemes.
He is also heavily involved in Sports Law, working with clients such as the Premier League.
Elaine Lightfoot heads the Private Client team and her areas of expertise include Wills, Trusts, Settlements, Inheritance Tax Planning, the Administration of Estates and Trusts of all sizes and complexities, together with Lasting Powers of Attorney and Court of Protection matters. Elaine also advises in respect of care home fees planning.
She has won an individual recommendation for her work in the latest edition of the UK Legal 500 and is described as a Notable Practitioner for Private Client work in the 2016 Chambers UK guide, where she is highlighted as “an Associate to watch”.
Peter Minnikin specialises in all aspects of Crime, Corporate Crime and Fraud and Regulatory work.
He has particular expertise dealing with substantial and high profile cases. He has represented clients charged with the most serious offences including serious fraud, drugs cases, violence and sexual offences. He handled one of the leading Computer Misuse Act cases, which set the precedent on “ethical hacking” in this country.
Peter deals with a portfolio of Regulatory work, including representing clients in disciplinary proceedings brought by professional bodies, such as solicitors, accountants, pharmacists, doctors and sporting bodies and individuals.
Heather Roberts is a specialist in Commercial Property and part of McCormicks’ Rural Property team which works with estate owners, rural developers and occupiers to provide a full property and tax planning service. She has significant experience of a full range of Commercial Property matters including sales and purchases, the granting and taking of leases, asset management, development and property litigation.
She has acted in a number of high profile transactions and her clients have included developers, retailers, portfolios, banks, financial institutions and trusts. She has acted for Rudding Park, Sainsbury’s, the Meadowhall Centre, Netto and Card Factory.
