Planning permission passed for family to build their own homes

11 August 2016

National property consultant Carter Jonas has secured planning permission for five dwellings in Tockwith on behalf of a local family who wish to build homes so their grown up children can move back to the village.

The Bye family has lived in the village for 39 years and own the land for the development.

The family’s three children wanted to buy homes in Tockwith but house prices made their dream unaffordable. The development of the land on Kendal Lane means the siblings can now move back to the village where they grew up.

Three of the properties will each be occupied by the children. Brothers Simon and Edward and their partners are first time buyers; it will be the second home purchase for their sister Laura. The remaining two properties will be sold to help fund the development.

The development will consist of two storey properties providing two and three bedroom accommodation.

Kate Broadbank, senior planner at Carter Jonas said:

We are delighted that planning permission has been passed for this proposal. Buying your first home is getting increasingly harder for young people in the UK, so it is great to see more clients taking matters into their own hands and using their existing land where possible.

In a Prime Minister’s speech in October 2015, David Cameron encouraged this type of development in order to boost house building and home ownership, this new site does both. The site is in an excellent position to contribute to and benefit from the employment opportunities, services and facilities that Tockwith and the neighbouring villages offer. We wish the Bye family all the best for a long and happy future in the village.

The properties will be constructed from traditional materials of stone and brick with appropriate proportions to ensure that the impact of the development is minimal and reflects traditional dwellings in the village.
