Police were called to reports of an assault in Westgate, Ripon, at 2.30am on 17 July 2016. The victim, a man in his 20s, received serious injuries that required hospital treatment.
A 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent.
He has been released on bail pending further enquiries.
