Visitors to the new £11.5m exhibition hall at next month’s Great Yorkshire Show are sure to be wowed by the sights and smells emanating from the fabulous Food Hall.
The new hall, which is the size of three and a half Olympic swimming pools, will become a virtual food emporium during the three-day agricultural extravaganza, which runs from Tuesday 12 to Thursday 14 July 2016.
As well as hundreds of stands selling everything from chutney and chilli sauce and pork pies to popcorn, the Food Hall includes an exciting exhibition charting ‘The Journey of Food, the Great Cheese and Dairy Show and a new Great Yorkshire Food Theatre.
Making a welcome return to the Great Yorkshire Show is TV celebrity chef Rosemary Shrager, who is one of the stars of the food theatre. Dividing her time between the new Great Yorkshire Food Theatre and the Game Cookery Theatre, in the Country Pursuits Area, Rosemary will be rustling up a variety of recipes including stroganoff using beef from three different Yorkshire farmers.
Other well known names who will be rolling up their culinary sleeves during the show include James Mackenzie of the Michelin-starred Pipe and Glass at South Dalton, Simon Crannage of Swinton Park near Masham and chef Callum Bowmer of the Clocktower Restaurant, Rudding Park, Harrogate.
New to the Great Yorkshire Show is vegan chef, Little Miss Meat Free Kate Beskow, from Hull, who will be cooking a mushroom stroganoff and Will Pemberton from Bettys Cookery School, in Harrogate, who plans to use the best Whitby crabs to make a tasty seaside salad.
Chef Stephanie Moon, one of the cookery theatre co-ordinators, said she was very excited about this year’s line-up.
Stephanie said:
We have two cookery theatres this year, which has enabled us to include even more Yorkshire chefs on stage, who are all passionate about the region’s food. The two theatres will give visitors more variety – and hopefully inspire them to try some of these recipes at home.
Other highlights of the daily programme include BBC Radio York presenters Adam Tomlinson and Anna Wallace, whose creations will include Knaresborough-based Chippindale eggs, former BBC MasterChef finalist Sarah Danesin Medio, and Paul Rawlinson, owner of Norse restaurant in Harrogate.
‘The Journey of Food’ exhibition will enable visitors to explore the different aspects of food production, from hearing about new innovations in satellite field mapping to meeting local farmers and growers from across Yorkshire and beyond.
The prestigious Great Yorkshire Cheese and Dairy Show is one of the finest in the country with classes for butter, yoghurt, liquid milk, ice cream and cheese. For the first time there is a section for organic products, a new class for cheese-makers for those whose business is less than five years old and the opportunity to take home some prize-winning cheese from the Big Cheese Auction on the final afternoon. There’s also the chance for visitors to try their hand at judging cheese, ice cream and chilled products in the ‘Consumer’s Choice’ section.
