Tim Milburn, Assistant Headteacher at Harrogate Grammar School, will be undertaking the 2016 Virgin London Marathon for the third time this Sunday. He will be raising money for St Michael’s Hospice, more specifically Just ‘B’, a well-known local charity that the school is working closely with this year.
Just ‘B’ are a charity offering emotional support services to anyone who has suffered bereavement. At the start of the academic year Harrogate Grammar School entered into a partnership with Just ‘B’ as part of their continued commitment to offer a high level of pastoral care for all students, years 7 to 13. Just ‘B’ offer students, who have been identified as needing additional support, a range of therapeutic approaches, education and advice around emotional well-being which are delivered through a counselling service. Tim feels this is an invaluable service for young people and as they offer their services free-of-charge he is keen to support them so his fundraising efforts will go towards this fantastic cause.
The charity’s chief executive, Tony Collins, explains how Tim’s challenge will help Just ‘B’ offer more children and young people the emotional support they need:
Tim’s efforts are part of an innovative partnership between Just ‘B’ and a number of local schools, including Harrogate Grammar School. Working alongside students within schools, Just ‘B’ is able to help with bereavement and emotional wellbeing through special, individual support. Just ‘B’, a service provided by Saint Michael’s, is only able to continue this vital work thanks to the generous support of our community, and we are exceptionally grateful that Tim has chosen to take on the London Marathon to raise funds for the service. We’d like to take this opportunity to thank Tim for his hard work, dedication, and fantastic fundraising, and wish him luck in this enormous challenge.

Running the marathon on Sunday will be the culmination of hours of training including lots of early starts during the winter months before starting work, but more importantly abstention from my beloved donuts.
My personal objective is that all the preparation and sacrifice will yield a personal best time. I started training started on Christmas Day, just before everyone at home sat down to dinner, because I knew that if I could motivate myself to go out then it would be easier to get out every day in the cold months of January and February.
I hope that my small sacrifices in getting ready for this challenge will help to raise money for a charity that provides an instrumental service for young people and also one that the schools holds very dear. However what I am most looking forward to is…my first donut on Sunday evening!
