The Government is providing local authorities with Community Grants as part of the Communities and Business Recovery Scheme. This will be equivalent to up to £500 per household affected by flooding. It will help with recovery costs such as provision of temporary accommodation.
In North Yorkshire this will mean a fixed payment of £500 for a property that has been flooded.
The grant will be paid directly into bank account as Harrogate Borough Council is administering the scheme on behalf of North Yorkshire County Council.
People who have been affected but do not pay their council tax by direct debit should contact the council’s Customer Services, who will be happy to help them apply for payment.
Harrogate Borough Council Customer Services can be e-mailed at CustomerServices@harrogate.gov.uk or telephone 01423 500 600
Council Tax Support discounts or Business Rate Relief is also available for flooded properties and more details on this will be available shortly.
There is also grant support available for businesses; the Leeds City Local Enterprise Partnership, which covers the Harrogate district, will be administering grants of up to £2,500. Businesses can call them on 0113 348 1818.
North Yorkshire County Council would also like to hear from residents and businesses that have been flooded as part of its flood investigation work. It has created a short survey that it would like any residents or businesses affected by flooding to complete, at www.northyorks.gov.uk/flooding
