Pedestrian seriously injured on Ripon road in Harrogate

Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman was knocked down and left with serious injuries in a collision on Ripon Road, Harrogate.

The collision occurred at about 9.30am on Tuesday 22 December 2015, outside the Cygnet Hospital close to the junction of Ripon Road and Coppice Drive.

The pedestrian, a 76-year-old woman from the Burton Leonard area, was crossing the road towards the hospital when she was struck by a vehicle travelling north out of Harrogate town centre in the direction of Ripon.

The vehicle failed to stop at the scene and left the area without leaving any details. It is described as a dark-coloured old-style Audi estate, with a non-UK registration plate.

 

Traffic Constable Ken Riley, of the Roads Policing Group based at Harrogate, said:

I would like to appeal to any members of the public who witnessed this incident to get in touch and assist in our efforts to track down the driver of the vehicle involved. I am also asking the driver of the vehicle to come forward so that we can speak to them about this matter.

 

The pedestrian suffered injuries to her foot, leg and ribs, and is recovering from the incident at home.
