Fostering families from across North Yorkshire had a great day out with Santa, courtesy of the Wensleydale Railway.
The Santa Special steam train journey gave Fostering North Yorkshire’s families an opportunity to socialise and share experiences, as well as having a family fun time out in the run-up to Christmas. It was generously sponsored by Wensleydale Railway, with all the foster families travelling free of charge.
And in Scarborough, the Fun Fostering Club is going to see Dick Whittington at Scarborough Spa on Wednesday 23 December. Ten children from fostering families will be attending, supported by staff from the fostering team. These children support their parents in looking after children who are fostered.
The Scarborough group meets regularly, with members supporting each other, and across the county there are similar groups that support children of fostering families.
County Councillor Janet Sanderson, North Yorkshire’s Executive Member for Children’s Services, said:
In North Yorkshire, we really value the hard work our foster carers and their children do and we want to make sure they know they are appreciated.
We value the important role children play within families, supporting and sharing their parents, as well as sharing their homes, toys and experiences. We engage with children from the beginning of a family’s expression of interest and throughout their fostering careers.
