Grant on offer to students taking post-15 education courses in Harrogate

6 December 2015

Students living in the Harrogate Borough Council area who are currently taking post-16 education courses (2015/16) are being invited to apply for a small grant from a local trust.

The fund, which is administered by North Yorkshire County Council, is available from the Haywra Crescent Educational Trust and could be a welcome boost for people studying at a college or university outside the district.

The grants can be used to buy books and equipment or to fund travel that relates to study.

The money is made available through the proceeds of the sale of a former education property in Haywra Crescent, Harrogate.

This year the trust has around £1,700 to distribute to students from the Harrogate area who are studying at schools, colleges and universities outside the Harrogate Borough area.

County Councillor Arthur Barker, Executive Member for post-16 learning, said:

This is a great opportunity for people going on to further or higher education to receive some valuable extra help. We realise that funding their studies can be a worry for many students and these grants can help relieve some of the financial pressure.

Further information and application forms are available from the Post-16 Team at Jesmond House, 31/33 Victoria Avenue, Harrogate, HG1 5QE, or by email at post16@northyorks.gov.uk

The closing date for applications is 31 December 2015.
