Employees from a Harrogate-based architects practice have drawn on the success of last year’s “Grand depart” to raise money for a local organisation which supports young, disabled people.
Members of S+SA Architects and clients donned lycra to cycle the 55-mile “Wiggle Ay Up Sportive”, in aid of Disability Action Yorkshire – its chosen charity of the year.
Setting off from Thirsk Race Course, the riders followed a circuitous route which took in the spectacular sites of the White Horse at Kilburn, Roulston Scar, Sutton Bank and Rievaulx Abbey.
Victoria Avenue based S+SA Architects – which has clients all over the country in a host of different sectors – first worked with Disability Action Yorkshire on its Claro Road residential home more than a decade ago.
S+SA-Architects director Joel Smith said:
S+SA Architects is totally committed to Corporate Social Responsibility, and, as part of our on-going CSR policy, we have chosen to support Disability Action Yorkshire.
The work this organisation does is simply incredible and we are delighted to have completed this challenge in their name.
It was a superb day and hard work at times. However, we took in some of the most stunning scenes Yorkshire has to offer, and, at the same time, our mini Tour de Yorkshire has raised nearly £700.
Disability Action Yorkshire chief executive Jackie Snape said:
We are indebted to Joel and the S+SA-Architects team for nominating us as their supported charity and undertaking this ride on our behalf.
Without the support of local businesses, organisations and individuals, it would be incredibly difficult to fund the work we do, namely helping disabled young people living as independent lives as possible.
