Around 50 people took part in a sponsored walk this morning (3 October 2015), in the Valley Gardens in Harrogate. The event was to help raise awareness and money for dementia support and research.
According to a government report:
- 1 in 3 people will care for someone suffering from dementia in their lifetime.
- Dementia remains one of the top five underlying causes of death in the UK
- 1 in 3 people who die after the age of 65 in the UK have dementia
The event was supported by the general public, Harrogate Lions, The Alzeimers Society, Harrogate and Knaresborough MP; Andrew Jones, Emmerdale Actor; John Middleton, Harrogate Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Sustainable Transport; Rebecca Burnett and Mike Chambers; Harrogate Borough Council Cabinet Member for Housing and Safer Communities
The event is currently at 89% of its £1,000 target and the organisers would welcome further donations.
