The Gilbert and Sullivan Festival will return to Harrogate in 2016, 2017 and 2018.
The organisers say that they accepted a proposal from the Harrogate International Centre (HIC) for the festival to remain in the town.
Ian Smith, Chairman said:
As you will understand this has been a very difficult decision. I met with the Chief Executive of HIC and the Leader of the Harrogate District Council earlier this week and was pleased to hear that they had received many emails urging them to persuade us to return to Harrogate.
The deal is a very solid one and we believe it offers the prospect for growth and stability after two difficult years. Harrogate will assist our marketing and promotional programmes around Harrogate district; introduce us to potential sponsors; ensure full co-operation from the Tourist Information Centres; and provide poster displays around Harrogate.
The decision has been made to remove any uncertainty for the next three years.
Ian Smith, Chairman said:
Because of the great interest from amateur societies wanting to return to Harrogate next year we have had to marginally change the dates of Harrogate 2016.
We plan to open with a Gala Gilbert and Sullivan Dinner and Celebrity Concert which will be offered first to Association Members and 1500 Club supporters on Wednesday August 3rd. The first performance will be on Thursday August 4th and the last on Sunday August 21st.
We have written to Buxton asking if the Opera Company could book the Opera House for a visit at the end of August.
