I’ve used the term “definitive” in my title this week, which is probably a mistake as it is practically impossible for someone to know EVERYTHING that is going on. Whilst I am on the edge of my seat in anticipation of receiving angry facebook messages from people I have never met because I haven’t listed an event that I haven’t heard about or been told about, really I am using the term because definitive actually means something done with authority.
I do everything with authority, even stuff I have no idea about. I have discovered if you tell people something with enough conviction, most of the time they will believe you.
For example, I was thinking about this the time I killed a tiger with one punch, if I were to start telling people that coming to my events because it would be beneficial to their health, because of the phenomenon of placebos people who come to my events would start feeling better and – vitally – looking better. If you have ever been to one of my events you will know that this is already the case, as they are full of beautiful people with a great fresh scent.
Last week I was lucky enough to put on a gig with the original lead singer out of The Inspiral Carpets. This was a great gig and it was really busy – to be turning people away at 9pm on a Wednesday ‘cos we were too full was admittedly a double edged sword seeing peoples sad faces, but a good achievement nonetheless.
Following on from that I’ve just booked the lead singer out of The Bluetones to play at 10 Devonshire Place on Wednesday 17th June. There are a bunch of acts we are looking at to get there, so long as these events get the support they need; if last week was anything to go by, they will be fantastic. It is first come first served on the door, so please don’t send me a polite message on facebook saying “Hi, do you remember me? I once stubbed a cigarette out in your eye in Skewers. Hope you are well, any chance you can reserve me 15 spaces at the front for the gig mate?” which is something that has very definitely never happened.
This week I’ve got my open deck night tonight (Thursday) at the same place (after all, it is the only place that lets me “have a go” these days this side of the Pennines). Porkies Prime Cuts is always a bit of fun and this one is a denim & leather special, so expect tunes from Bon Jovi, Guns n’ Roses and Poison….? I only host the night and just DJ for about half an hour, so am really looking forward to what seeing what pleasures (guilty and otherwise) the guest DJs play; it all comes from vinyl and whilst there is nothing wrong with the music of Rihanna that I would be prepared to put into print, it offer a nice change of pace to some of the other stuff out there.
Still in the world of ROCK, Empress are playing at Montey’s on Friday and I am told they are well good, whilst also on Friday Retro Bar has a totally different kind of night: called “Swing ‘n’ Ting” it promises electro swing, jazz and more. This looks like a really interesting idea and Retro regularly supports those kinds of things, so show them a bit of love and take a look!
Harrogate Town AFC are holding their annual beer festival this Saturday with a host of live covers artists, remember to drink responsibly though yeah?
The Geek pub quiz is back at Major Tom’s social on Sunday for lovers of the kitsch, giving away old games consoles and lots of collectables, this is still a very popular event that has been going for ages and has a really strong following so if you want a seat turn up early! Alternately you can come to my quiz at 10 Dev and sit on my lap if you don’t smell. If you think that is an offensive thing to say, just think where else I could have suggested you sit.
I’ve rejigged the listings a bit, and am always looking for events to feature so don’t be shy and drop me a facebook message if you’ve got something coming up. That’s what all round good guy David Crane did, he’s got a couple of gigs coming up in June that look like fun, namely: Sunday Soul Selection (Soul, Mod & Ska) at the Cross Keys on June 7th from 4pm til 8pm (free entry) and a Soul & Ska night at Starbeck WMC on June 27th from 7pm til midnight, (contact club for tickets, not sure of price). D’y’see? It’s just that easy for me to feature stuff so please get intouch via facebook.com/djtrev.
Cheers for reading, and here’s the listings, have fun, drink good stuff in a good way and don’t be loose with your affections. Trev x x x
