Police investigating the discovery of a man’s body in the River Foss in York are carrying out enquiries to establish the full the circumstances surrounding the death.
Police were alerted to the incident near Layerthorpe at 11.30am (Tuesday 18 November 2014) by a member of the public.
Assistance was called in from North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue who launched a boat.
The body was recovered by the fire boat crew just after 12.40pm.
The man’s next of kin are still being traced. Police are not expected to be in a position to name him until Wednesday at the earliest.
The circumstances of the death are unexplained at this time as the investigation continues on behalf of the coroner.
