Police hunt wanted York man

11 July 2014

York police are appealing for the public’s help to locate a wanted man.

Michael William Powell, 30, is wanted for recall to prison as he has displayed poor behaviour while on licence.

He was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment for robbery in December 2011 and was released in June 2014.

Powell is described as white, 6ft tall, with a medium build and dark brown hair.

As well as living in York, Powell is known to have links in the Northampton area.

Detective Inspector Graeme Wright, of York CID, said: Michael, if you see or hear this appeal, my advice is simply hand yourself in. We are going to catch you and return you to custody. By remaining at large you are only delaying the inevitable and making matters worse for yourself.

I am also asking the public to report sightings of Powell to the police straight away.

Detective Inspector Wright added: Officers have already visited a number of addresses to which Powell is believed to have links. These visits will continue until he is back in custody.

If you are shielding Powell from the police, you need to know that you are not helping him and may even be committing offences yourself. If this is the case, you can expect to be arrested and charged.

Anyone who can help to locate Michael Powell should contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 1 and pass the details to the Force Control Room.

Or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111, quoting reference number 12140112879.
