Harrogate High School held its annual sports day at Princess Mary’s Stadium in Cleckheaton.
The day featured a wide range of sporting events.
The morning consisted of field events including shot put, triple jump and javelin. Stand out athletes included Sam Clarke, year 8, with an exceptional performance in the high jump (1.73m) and Albert Ibrahimi, a year 9 student, who scored a great result in the javelin (32m). Also outstanding was year 7’s Matthew Pollard who achieved nearly 4m in the long jump.
The afternoon featured track events including the 100m, 800m and the 1500m which again saw excellent contributions from all students. In particular, Issy Dynan of year 9 participated in nearly all track events, including consecutive appearances in the 800m and 1500m.
Everyone took part, from history teacher Miss Potts, keeping the proceedings running by announcing the events throughout the day and encouraging the student athletes, to the sixth form sports prefects who helped set up the day and look after the younger students.
A gloriously sunny day made the event even more enjoyable for students and staff alike.
Emma Lewis, head of Physical Education, rounded up the day by saying: What an amazing day! It was great to see over 120 students all participating on a tartan track and putting in so much effort for their continent. The students were a credit to the school by cheering on all their peers and supporting students across different year groups.
