Reigning Tour de France champion Chris Froome rode around Yorkshire’s roads this weekend as he prepares for Yorkshire’s Grand Départ this 5 and 6 July.
He joined Team Sky colleagues and staff in riding both stages 1 and 2 in glorious sunshine on Friday and Saturday and was met by cheering fans along the routes, with Team Sky Tweeting they were “stunned” by the passionate welcome.
The next time Froome will be in Yorkshire will be for the biggest Team Presentation Ceremony in the history of the Tour at Leeds Arena on Thursday July 3 in front of thousands of fans as part of a major live show.
Gary Verity, Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: For many people, seeing the reigning Tour champion Chris Froome riding around the county ahead of the Grand Départ makes it all feel very real – excitement is reaching fever pitch and the next time we’ll see the champion will be on stage live at Leeds Arena for the Team Presentation Ceremony. It will be a moment in history and we can’t wait to give him and all the riders our famous Yorkshire welcome.
