New cycle coaching for young people in Harrogate

2 May 2014

Harrogate Nova Cycling Club has announced an opportunity for young people aged between 8 and 16 to develop cycling skills in a new series of courses run by British Cycling Coaches.

The new six week training course, organised by Harrogate Nova Cycling Club and supported by a grant from Harrogate Borough Council, will take place every Saturday afternoon at the Killinghall Moor Country Park, a safe off road environment, starting on 24 May 2014 and running until the 28th June, the weekend before Le Tour arrives.

The training will equip young people with bike handling skills which can be used on or off road and will include demonstrations from national champions and an opportunity to enter a round of the Pedal Sport 2014 Summer Cyclo Cross Series on Wednesday 9th July, should riders wish to try out their new skills in a race.

Organiser, Heather Thomson said: We are thrilled to be promoting these events and look forward to inspiring and encouraging young people in the area to cycle. We are lucky to have a team of coaches who bring years of experience in cycling and competition including an ex national time trial champion and we also have some exciting guest riders lined up to help demonstrate the skills being taught. Who knows, we may even spot the next Bradley Wiggins or Victoria Pendleton

There will be 2 sessions running each week over the six week course, one for 8 to 11 year olds (2:00 – 2:45pm) and one for 12-16 year olds (3:00 – 4:00pm). Places on the course are free and are limited to 30 riders. Places will be allocated on a first come basis.

Riders will need to have a bike with 2 brakes, suitable for riding on grass such as a mountain bike, have suitable clothing and footwear for cycling and a helmet.
