The search is on for a full-time Director for Visit Harrogate, the district’s destination management organisation.
As the district gears up to capitalise on the huge numbers of visitors expected for the Grand Départ of the Tour de France in July, the demands of the role, which has previously been part-time, have led to the need for a full-time Director.
Working with the Visit Harrogate Board, the new Director will continue to develop plans for the district, targeting both private individuals and businesses; work with existing tourism groups; and attract finance to support the district’s promotion.
The Chairman of Visit Harrogate, Peter McCormick, said: The success of current plans, including the launch of our new Conference Desk, our recent visit to Confex, among many other initiatives, means that we now need a full-time Director to head up the team. It is an exciting and challenging role for anyone with a background in business and promotion.
The first stages of the Tour de France are an unprecedented opportunity to showcase the Harrogate district to a massive audience, both those who attend and those watching the broadcast coverage, and it is vital that we ensure we take full advantage of that opportunity, not only during the event but also in the following months and years.
The destination management organisation is designed to promote the district across the UK and beyond and has the backing of Harrogate Borough Council, North Yorkshire County Council, Harrogate Chamber of Commerce, Destination Harrogate and the Yorkshire Agricultural Society, among many others.
