Cllr Michael Newby, Mayor of the Borough of Harrogate hosted a meeting of the Friends of Harrogate in the Council Chamber recently.
The Mayor talked to the Group about one of the most important dates in Harrogate’s history – the year 1884. It was in that year that the town received its Charter of Incorporation, which was granted by Queen Victoria. Her great great granddaughter, Queen Elizabeth ll, granted the current charter to our current Borough Council. The Mayor spoke about the Civic regalia and his year as Mayor. After the talk the Mayor entertained the Friends to tea in the Mayor’s Parlour. John Fox proposed the vote of thanks to the Mayor.
