Popular hit musical “Singin’ in the Rain” will appear at Harrogate Theatre tonight (2 April 2014)
Ripon Amateur Operatic Society will be performing this well-known favourite from Wednesday through to Saturday including a Saturday matinee performance.
Set in the roaring 20s and surrounding the silent movie industry, the Society made their own film footage which will be projected onto the set at various intervals during the show.
Phill Ruddy, Director, said: It was important to me that the audience could really feel like they were experiencing the cinema of that era. By recording our own footage to use during the production we can give the show authenticity and the audience can enjoy a unique theatre experience which combines live performances with film. It was also great for the cast to record the necessary scenes in the style of the silent movies of the time. The technical challenges involved will be worth it. We are also lucky to have local professional film maker and cast member Katie Greenhalf of VWP Films who has done an amazing job making the footage true to the genre using special techniques.
Based on the famous MGM film, the production will include all the well-known classics such as Good Morning, Make ‘em Laugh, Moses Supposes and the legendary Singin’ in the Rain.
The show will take place at Harrogate Theatre from 2nd – 5th April 2014 with evening performances and a Saturday matinee. Tickets are now available from £10 at Harrogate Theatre Box Office on 01423 502116 and at www.harrogatetheatre.com. Group discounts and concessions are also available.
