Harrogate Theatre and playwright Julie Amanda Bokowiec are looking for a supporting cast of ten people aged 17 and over for the Harrogate performances of Bokowiec’s new play Lost Boy Racer, a Lawrence Batley Theatre production and a cultural commission for the Yorkshire Festival 2014.
Participants need to be interested in visual/physical comedy theatre and not be afraid to challenge themselves to create bold physical images and to use clowning techniques to create character. They will work with performance specialist Natalie Bellingham of Uncanny Theatre to create their own characters, costume ideas and stage presence within the piece. The supporting cast will be embedded within a professional company and will work alongside professional actors, giving anyone seriously interested in a career in theatre a great learning experience.
Participants must be able to attend all of the workshop sessions, the onstage rehearsal with the professional company and all performances.
Lost Boy Racer is the story of Sean Racer. He used to be an energetic wildcat youth hooked on cycling. Now he’s an overweight, 40-something tax inspector on the brink of a personal crisis. Turning to Claude, an oddball sage-like ex-pro cycle mechanic, and encouraged by the wily Linda, a serial tax evader keen to distract him from taking a closer look at her books, Sean hatches a plan to get his life back on track and on two wheels. He will fulfil a youthful dream; to ride the Tour De France. That’s right, he’s going the distance – albeit on a bike on rollers in the shed. Will he make it to the finish?
Lost Boy Racer is a quirky northern comedy-drama with a touch of blood, sweat and tears, a large dose of fun, some off-the-wall bike action and a love story… of sorts.
The team is very excited to be touring to Harrogate Theatre to be part of La Grande Fȇte (the theatre’s entertainment offering around The Grand Depart) and look forward to working with the Harrogate-specific supporting cast.
