Julian Smith, Member of Parliament for Skipton and Ripon, is encouraging schools and young people across the constituency to support the UK’s first National Voter Registration Day.
The aim of the day is to empower future voters to realise they have a say and a stake in decisions affecting their future.
The inaugural event takes place on Wednesday 5 February 2014.
Julian said: This new annual day of co-ordinated action will see businesses, community groups and schools registering thousands of eligible young voters and showing them how and why they should take part in our democratic system.
Whatever people’s political persuasions, I hope as many youngsters as possible can be encouraged to see how politics has a day-to-day impact on their lives and why it is therefore important they are engaged in the political process and able to have their say.
