A video has been released by North Yorkshire Police, showing footage of a woman who overturned her car near Skipton.
Deborah Anderson, aged 52, was more than three times the legal limit for alcohol in blood when she crashed on the B6265 at Hedden at about 7.30pm on 18 October 2013.
At Skipton Magistrates’ Court today (Friday 20 December 2013), she was sentenced to 250 hours unpaid work and banned from driving for three years after pleading guilty to drink driving and dangerous driving.
She also received a 12 month supervised community order.
The video footage clearly shows how judgement can be badly impaired when driving after drinking, and Anderson was lucky to escape the collision with just minor bruising.
Inspector Paul Cording, of North Yorkshire Police’s Road Policing Group, said:
This is a shocking example of just how much drinking can affect your ability to drive.
The lady in this case was extremely fortunate that she didn’t seriously hurt herself or somebody else, considering the lack of control she had over her vehicle.
I hope people will watch the footage and realise just how dangerous drink driving can be. You might think you are in control but you aren’t and it can have devastating consequences.
If you suspect anyone of drink or drug driving, contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 – select option 1 – and pass information to the Force Control Room.

Christmas Safety Campaign
During North Yorkshire Police’s Christmas Safety Campaign officers have been targeting drink and drug drivers who put lives in
danger by getting behind the wheel while impaired.
So far, officers have made 72 arrests, including a 21-year-old woman from York who has been arrested twice since the campaign began at the end of November 2013.
She was arrested on suspicion of drink driving after police stopped her on Bishopthorpe Road on 1 December 2013. While on bail for that alleged offence she was arrested on Lowther Terrace in the early hours of Friday 20 December 2013.
She has been charged with the second offence and is due to appear at York Magistrates’ Court on 23 December 2013.
