On the buses – new service for Harlow Hill?

27 November 2013

Local bus campaigners and Councillors in the Harlow Hill areaof Harrogate have won a commitment for better bus services in the area.

A public meeting attended by Connexions bus company is to be held at the Harlow Hill Club, College Street on Monday 2 December 2013 at 7pm so that local residents can have their say on what new services might be introduced.

The proposal from Connexions could see:

  • A return to at least three buses an hour to the Harlow Hill and Pannal Ash area – Connexions every 30 minutes, Transdev every 40 minutes – following a reduction from a 20 minute services to a 40 minute service earlier this year.
  • No need to change buses if you are travelling to Harrogate Hospital or to Knaresborough on the Connexions service.
  • Transdev and Connexions buses both stopping outside the Harlow Hill Community Centre.

Speaking about the proposed new service Rossett and Harlow campaigner Rebecca Burnett (pictured) said:

As soon as the service reduction to one bus every 40 minutes was announced I contacted Connexions to ask whether they could provide a new service for residents.

Buses can be a lifeline for many people and it is important that a regular and reliable service is available. The proposals coming forward will provide that regular service to town once again and also help those visiting friends and relatives in the hospital who will be able to go there without having to change buses.

The proposals also have the advantage of more buses stopping outside the Harlow Hill Community Centre or ‘Green Hut’ as it is known. This means more and more people will be able to attend the popular community events held there.

Harlow Moor councillor Don Mackenzie added:

This proposal is excellent news for Harlow Moor residents who use the Otley Road bus, and will come as a welcome relief following recent reductions in service.

I am also continuing to press for an immediate upgrade of the Harlow Oval bus stop now that funding has been found.

Residents who can’t attend the meeting but would like to make a comment about the proposals should contact Rebecca Burnett at rjrburnett@googmail.com or on 07817 897090.
