Mayor celebrates the launch of Christmas at local garden

15 November 2013

A Harrogate garden was by joined by Mayor Councillor Michael Newby on Thursday 14 November 2013 to celebrate the launch of its festive events programme with a special ‘meet the maker’ evening, aimed at encouraging locals to support regional suppliers this Christmas.

Councillor Newby met some of the region’s favourite suppliers in the Shop & Plant Centre at RHS Garden Harlow Carr, Harrogate. Among them were North Yorkshire gin producers SLOEmotion and the popular Yorkshire Rapeseed Oil Company, as well as renowned artist Emma Ball.

Tanya Welham, Shop Manager at RHS Garden Harlow Carr, said:

With the Tour de France coming to Yorkshire next year, it’s our time to shine. The quality of producers, makers and craftspeople in the county is second to none, and come next year, all eyes will be on them. But, we shouldn’t leave it until 2014 to shout about these incredible makers, we need to fly the flag now by investing in Yorkshire-made this Christmas.

The RHS Garden Harlow Carr Shop & Plant centre will be open until 8pm every Thursday evening until 19 December, forming part of the garden’s Christmas events programme, which includes art and craft exhibitions, family activities and garden trails.
