North Yorkshire County Council is to begin resurfacing the A59 York Road at Goldsborough between the roundabout with the A658 and the junction to Flaxby village.
The resurfacing is part of a programme of accelerated highway works ahead of next year’s Grand Départ of the Tour de France. The works would all have been needed in the next five years and have been brought forward to this financial year, with the vast majority being delivered ahead of this year’s winter period.
Work to repair and reinstate the A59 carriageway is scheduled to take place from 21 October to 18 November between 7pm and 5am each day. The work depends on the weather, so these dates may change slightly.
County councillor John Savage, local member for Ainsty said:
This programme of road works will bring long-term benefit to highways users.
In addition to the economic benefits for the county which the Tour de France will bring. Our contractors will make every effort to keep disruption from the A59 works to a minimum.
Due to the size of the equipment required the road will be closed while work is taking place to enable the contractor to work safely.
Every effort will be made to maintain access to properties and businesses, but there may be times when access is restricted. Drivers are asked to take extra care within the works.
Notices will be placed on the road in advance to advise drivers of the closure area. A diversion will be clearly signposted and will be suitable for all types of traffic. Traffic will be discouraged from using unsuitable routes.
The contractor for the works is Aggregate Industries UK Ltd and their contact is Lee Whitehead, who can be reached on 07944 601610..
