Police called to report of young child left unattended

6 October 2013

North Yorkshire Police were called to the Skipton Road area of Harrogate this morning (6 October 2013) following reports that there was a young child on her own.

Rumours have also been circulating over social media that the incident involved a child on the roadside but these rumours are unfounded.

No child has been reported missing and the police have not found a child in relation to this.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said:

At around 6.20am on Sunday 6 October 2013, a member of the public called North Yorkshire Police to report that as she was walking along Skipton Road she saw a child in pink pyjamas in the garden of a property next to the church. The child was not walking along the road but in the garden.

Police attended the scene of the report but did not find a child in pyjamas.

They knocked on the doors of several properties in the area and rang the telephone numbers of properties in the vicinity. Officers also checked the grounds of a nearby primary school, and called the member of the public back to double-check the information but despite the extensive enquiries, the child was not located.

No further sightings were reported and officers have not received any reports of missing children.

There could be any number of reasons why the child was in the garden and if you believe it is your child who was in the garden of the property on Skipton Road, Harrogate next to the church, please let the police know by calling 101, quoting report 12130173470.
