Wheelie biker banned for 20 months

30 August 2013

Northallerton Magistrates have banned a 42-year-old Holmfirth man from the roads for 20 months after he was caught performing a wheelie by North Yorkshire Police’s mobile safety camera.

Michael John Chester of Meltham near Holmfirth today (30 August 2013) pleaded guilty to dangerous driving after he was caught riding at 110mph while performing a “wheelie” on the A63 at Newthorpe near Selby on 7 July 2013.chester side cam 2

In addition to the ban he was handed a 12 week prison sentence suspended for two years and ordered to complete 200 hours of unpaid work. He must also take an extended driving test before he can get his licence back after the ban.

Two other charges of speeding and using a number plate which does not conform to regulations were dropped.

Dave Brown, who heads North Yorkshire Police’s Mobile Safety Camera Team, said:

This is a classic case of someone with complete contempt for motoring laws. This dangerous act not only shows arrogance, but a complete lack of concern for the safety of other road users.

Mr Chester should count himself lucky to be able to attend court, the outcome could have been far worse for him and his family. The message should now be clear to others who flout the law that our mobile safety camera has the technology, and our officers have the determination to bring law-breakers to justice.
