There has been quite a buzz this week in local parenting circles following the launch of The Mumbler Awards in association with Wonder Media. The Mumbler Awards are a celebration of all the great family focused businesses in our region and they are voted for by parents.
The Mumbler Awards are the latest addition to the Harrogate Mumbler family, which began life two years ago as a small Facebook group.
Sally Haslewood came up with the idea behind the group, that would provide a small ‘virtual’ community for a few local mums to share tips and advice about common parenting issues.
Sally Haslewood said:
The Facebook grew beyond any expectation and currently there are just under 4,000 local “Mumblers” using the group. The Mumblers share advice about everything from potty training tips, to new baby angst, advice about which local shops and services are the best to where to find a trusted tradesman.

There are times as a new parent when you are up in the middle of the night with a child that won’t be comforted (Kate and Wills; we feel your pain, we’ve all been there!) The communities on social media can be invaluable at these times, if only to remind you that you’re not alone during your midnight vigils!
The Harrogate Mumbler community really took off, with regular meet-ups for mums new to the area and a strong ethos of online support and positive recommendations.
The Mumbler Awards is a natural progression for this amazing community of mums. It is a chance for the customers to recognise and thank all of the local businesses who provide such excellent service to our families and children.
The nominations are now open for the eight different award categories.
8) The Mumbler Award for the Outstanding Individual of the Year.
Anyone is welcome to nominate and a shortlist will be drawn up for each category after the nominations close at the end of August.
After the short list is announced, once again it will be over to the local parents to vote for the winners. The winners will be announced at a gala dinner at The Old Swan Hotel on Friday, 8 November 2013.
The full details of how to nominate and vote along with the how to book tickets for the awards dinner can be found at www.mumblerawards.com
These awards are a fabulous opportunity for the local parents and family related businesses to come together and celebrate the wonderful community we have in our district and you are all invited to take part.
