The Mellin Family and their trusty sheepdog Jess, who charmed audiences of the popular ITV show The Dales, will be the main ring attraction at next month’s Tockwith Show.
Carol and Philip Mellin will show visitors how they and their dog work at home but instead of sheep they will be using ducks, geese – and children.
Show chairman Lisa Chasney said:
The demonstrations promised to be hugely entertaining.
Anyone who saw the Mellins on TV will know just how interesting and skilled they are and we are delighted to have them at Tockwith Show.
As well as demonstrating Jess’s talents they will also show us how sheep are shorn the traditional way and explain what happens to the fleeces afterwards.
Mrs Chasney said this year’s event, which is being held at Tockwith Showground on Sunday August 4, had been organised with an emphasis on providing traditional family entertainment that all ages could enjoy.
Mrs Chasney added:
This year more than ever before our focus is on creating a family atmosphere and we will have plenty of activities and attractions for everyone.
New for this year is a display in the animal area from Riggmoor Reindeer and Co who are bringing their miniature farm with a shetland pony, lamb, goat and piglet as well as ducks, guinea pigs and rabbits.
There will be demonstrations in the craft marquee, the gun dog scurry and the fur and feather marquee where children can enjoy a touch and feel table of exhibits and an informative talk by the judge on chicken, ducks and eggs.
Entries are now being invited for all classes. Full details on how to enter are on the website www.tockwithshow.org along with the show schedule. Advance tickets are available online at a discounted price of £7. Admission on the day is £8 for adults with children under 16 free.
