The new officers will now been assigned a tutor constable and will work alongside regular colleagues. Once they have completed their training, which can take up to two years, they will be able to undertake independent patrols.
The invited guests included Police and Crime Commissioner for North Yorkshire Julia Mullligan, The High Sheriff of North Yorkshire, Reverend Rachel Benson, Acting Assistant Chief Constable Ken McIntosh, Mrs Anna Ramsden, Chair of the Bench, Superintendent Andy McMillan, Safer Neighbourhood Commander for Hambleton and Richmondshire, as well guests of the specials being attested
Chief Constable Dave Jones said:
I am very proud to welcome these latest recruits to North Yorkshire Police. I know that they will all prove to be great assets to the service.
The constables have now completed an initial period of intensive training and can look forward to working alongside regular colleagues. I see their role expanding in the future with even more opportunities for further development.
Specials perform a vital role within the service, carrying out exactly the same roles as regulars. A group of specials has recently completed a rigorous training course allowing them to use forced entry during police raids.
I know that they will find the role fulfilling and enjoyable. They may even equal the length of service of North Yorkshire’s longest serving special, who has recently completed 41 years with the service.
North Yorkshire Police will launch a new recruitment campaign for the Special Constabulary on Monday 29 July 2013, when full details will be published on www.northyorkshire,police.uk/specials, where you can also find out more about the role.
