Harrogate singer and songwriter, Dan Burnett, has reached the finals of Parliament’s Rock the House competition.
Now in its second year, the competition was founded to raise awareness of intellectual property theft and live music issues in Parliament and has five categories: under 19 solo artist, under 19 band, solo artist, band and small live music venue.
Local MP, Andrew Jones, asked for entrants from his constituency and asked a team of local music experts to choose their favourites to be entered into the competition.
The judging panel was made up of local music professionals and comprised Jason Odle and Ben Davis, founders of local recording label Ont’ Sofa, Graham Chalmers, the Weekend Editor for the Harrogate Advertiser, and Josh Hill, Head of Music at Boroughbridge High School and organiser of the AMP Awards.
Dan Burnett is in the final of the solo artist category and will be competing in a South London pub with three other finalists on Wednesday 26 June 2013. The winner will then play on the House of Commons terrace that evening.

I’m really proud of Dan Burnett for reaching the finals of Rock the House. He is a great advert for live music and a great advert for our area. His music is a powerful mix of blues and soul – anyone listening to it can tell he has outstanding talent. I will be at the awards ceremony on the House of Commons terrace to congratulate Dan on his achievement reaching the finals of the competition. I’m hoping that Dan might be the first Harrogate & Knaresborough winner of the competition.
