Police have now released the name the man who died in the collision near Airton in the Skipton area in the early hours of Saturday morning (22 June 2013).
He is Thomas Harry John Bannister, aged 48 of Bell Busk near Skipton.
Mr Bannister was a passenger in the Range Rover being driven by a 41-year-old local woman. She was arrested in connection with the collision and has been released on bail while the investigation continues.
The vehicle came to rest in a nearby field. Police and paramedics attended the collision, but sadly the 48-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
Police are appealing to anyone who may have seen a dark-coloured Range Rover Vogue travelling in the area from around midnight onwards, and to anyone who witnessed the actual collision, to contact them.
Anyone who can assist the investigation is asked to call North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2 and ask for Traffic Constable Andrew MacLeod, or you can pass information via email to Andrew.macleod@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk
Very sad, he ran the Coniston Hotel, which was founded by the Bannister family. He leaves behind a 12 year old daughter too.
