Employees at Lloyds TSB Wetherby branch will walk the 12 miles from their branch to the Comic Relief call centre in Leeds next week – dressed as giant mobile phones.
Bank Manager Michaela Tyson and Customer Service Manager Diane Doyle will walk to Lovell Park, where the Halifax share dealing office has been converted to one of the call centres to receive donations on Friday 15th March, the night of comic relief.
Michaela said:
We wanted to do something a little different to raise money this year. For Comic Relief 2 years ago we did a non-stop bike ride, covering a collective distance of 80 miles on an exercise bike in the branch. We raised an amazing £549 with the help of our generous customers, but we really hope to smash that target this year.
For Comic Relief this year we decided to volunteer our time at the call centre to help take donations on the night. But rather than simply arriving there, we thought it would be a great way to raise some extra money by walking the 12 miles from our branch to the call centre in Leeds dressed as mobile phones. We’ll be walking along the A58, so any support along the way would be greatly received!
Both ladies will be volunteering to take calls until midnight after arriving at the Halifax office. The mobile phone walk has already been sponsored by The Viper Rooms in Harrogate and Twenty Four Seven Nursing, a nursing and healthcare recruitment company based in Ilkley.
The staff that remain in the bank are doing their bit too, by wearing pedometers and inviting customers to guess the collective miles walked over the course of the day. The correct guess will receive a bottle of champagne, and there’s also a raffle taking place in the branch to win a bumper hamper.
