Less than a month after being launched, a fund for the children of a North Yorkshire police officer has already raised more than £14,000.
PC Andrew Bramma was tragically killed on 5 January 2013 when his police vehicle left the road and struck a tree in West Tanfield, near Ripon, as he was responding to an incident.
PC Bramma was the father of two young boys, Jack who is three, and Sam, whose first birthday falls this month.
Sgt Mike Stubbs, of North Yorkshire Police Federation, said:
We have been unable to acknowledge many of the donations. Some have been made direct to the fund’s bank account. Others have simply arrived as cheques with messages of condolence but no address.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has donated so far – Andrew’s wife, Kathryn, has been overwhelmed by the level of support.
Sgt Stubbs added that some fundraising events had already been held and more were being planned.
Sgt Mike Stubbs added:
Andrew’s colleagues at Harrogate and Ripon police stations have held cake sales which have raised almost one thousand pounds.
Other colleagues in both North Yorkshire Police and Greater Manchester Police are also looking at other fund raising ideas.
On Saturday 16 February 2013, classic rock band, Under Fire, are performing a concert in aid of the fund at Stanningley Rugby club where Andrew used to play.
