Harrogate Town 3 – 1 Workington

6 February 2013

Harrogate TownHarrogate’s first appearance at York City’s, Bootham Crescent, ended in a hard fought victory over Workington .

Town included new signing,Michael Woods,in the squad, but he was destined to sit out the match on the subs bench.

Workington Reds made the early running with Craig MacGillivray saving from Jonny Wright and Phil McLukie shooting wide from distance.

Adam Baker countered for Town but was wide with his shot.

MacGillivray was the busier keeper and he did well to block a Joe McGee shot, but luckily for Town McLuckie was wide with the rebound.

After 22 minutes the threatened goal arrived when Wright blocked a clearance and McLuckie knocked in the loose ball.

Shortly afterwards,Town survived another scare when Wright’s shot was deflected over the bar.

A lacklustre first period for Town ended with Robbie Youhill sustaining a nasty gash to the mouth which led to him giving way to Luke Dean.

The Reds started the second half in the same vein with McGee hitting the bar and Wright having a shot cleared off the line.

On 61 minutes Lee Elam replaced Baker and five minutes later Town were level.

Jonathan Mitchell could only block a powerful drive and Elam swept in the rebound.

A brace of goals in two minutes by the prolific Dom Knowles knocked the wind out of Workington’s sails.

After 71 minutes he latched on to a lofted ball over the Reds defence and calmly lobbed Mitchell,

then two minutes later he raced through to beat the keeper with a low drive.

This win elevates Town to eighth position and in striking distance of the play offs.
