Whitby Police Officers attended a derelict property on Broomfield Terrace, Whitby, shortly after 2pm today (Saturday 26 January 2013)
Workman carrying out renovation work on the property had found a body, which appears to have been in the property for some time.
Police spokesperson said:
The death is currently being treated as unexplained.
Enquiries remain ongoing to establish the identity and cause of death to establish if there are any suspicious circumstances.
A scene guard is currently in place.
While police enquiries are ongoing, we urge people to refrain from speculating about the incident.
We are not likely to be in a position to have further updates for several days. However, we will keep you updated with any developments.
