An inquest yesterday (22 January 2013) recorded an open verdict in the death of 12-year old Jordan Green from Harrogate.
North Yorkshire Coroner Rob Turnbull said:
I cannot be certain one way or another whether Jordan intended to kill himself or whether this was just a terrible accident.
The inquest heard that on Wednesday 27th June 2012, Jordan had attended Harrogate High School, where he had been disruptive. Teachers took some time to manage Jordan, but took the decision to send him home and permanently exclude him.
Later that evening, Jordan was found by Heidi Green, his mother, in the bedroom of his family home having hung himself. Emergency services were called but it was too late to save Jordan.
Jordan left a note to his Mother, saying “Have a nice life mum” and the inquest heard that bullying was not believed to have been a contributory factor.
Jordan Green was well-liked by his peers and a popular lad. After his death, many hundreds of his friends came together to release lanterns as a sign of respect .
