Appeal for witnesses after pedestrian dies in Stokesley

PoliceNorth Yorkshire Police are appealing for witnesses following a collision in Stokesley in which a pedestrian has died.

The collision occurred at approximately 12.20pm on Saturday 19 January 2013, and involved a silver Range Rover which collided with the pedestrian and the wall of a building on North Road.

The occupants of the Range Rover were seen running from the vehicle after the collision, one was arrested nearby, and a search is ongoing to locate the others.

Police are appealing for anyone who saw the Range Rover travelling through Stokesley prior to the collision and anyone who witnessed the actual crash, to please contact them as soon as possible.

Officers have spoken to witnesses at the scene, but it is vital that anyone else who has information which could help the investigation, comes forward.

As officers carry out enquiries to locate the remaining occupants of the vehicle, police are appealing for anyone who knows who they are or their current whereabouts, to contact the them.

Detective Superintendent Steve Smith, said:

It’s vital that we find who is responsible for this tragedy and establish the exact circumstances which led to it.

I’m therefore appealing to anyone who has any information, including anyone who may be shielding occupants of the Range Rover, to do the right thing and report what they know to the police.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any other information is asked to call North Yorkshire Police on 101 and give information to the Force Control Room quoting incident number 212 of 19 January.
