Schoolgirl Emily Belcher will be stepping into the spotlight next week when she joins the cast of a production at York’s Grand Opera House.
Emily, 9, a pupil at Belmont Grosvenor School, based in Birstwith, near Harrogate, is a member of the children’s chorus for York Stage Musicals’ production Mayhem at The Grand.
The one-night show, on Saturday 26 January, features highlights from a range of musicals, including Miss Saigon, Matilda, Ghost and Shrek The Musical.
Emily is no stranger to the stage, having appeared last year in the musical Boiling Frog in York, as well as performing in Sprite Productions’ presentation of Macbeth in the grounds of Ripley Castle.
A member of Belmont Grosvenor School’s Curtain Call theatre group, Emily has been rehearsing for the show since September last year and is very excited about taking part.
Belmont Grosvenor School, a co-educational prep school set in 20 acres of grounds, has a strong tradition of drama. As well as Curtain Call, pupils enjoy extra drama lessons, with 95 per cent of KS2 children achieving the highest accolade of distinction in recent LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art) exams.
