A fund has been set up to help the young family of PC Andrew Bramma who tragically died in the line of duty.
Temporary Chief Constable Tim Madgwick, of North Yorkshire Police, and Sgt Mike Stubbs, of North Yorkshire Police Federation, announced the launch of the fund today after receiving numerous offers of support for PC Bramma’s family from people throughout the country.
PC Bramma, who tragically died after his patrol van hit a tree in West Tanfield, near Ripon, while he was responding to a 999 call on 5 January 2013, leaves his wife, Kathryn and two sons, Jack aged three and Sam who is 11-months-old.
The North Yorkshire Police Federation Fund will enable people who wish to donate, or have already donated money, to contribute to the boys’ future.
Since PC Bramma’s death over 1000 people have contributed to an online book of condolence on the North Yorkshire Police website.
North Yorkshire Police statement:
Since the tragic death of PC Andrew Bramma on Saturday 5 January 2013, we have been inundated with offers of support from police officers and members of the public from around the country. Some have already sent money and many others are asking how they can help Andrew’s family.
In response, today we are launching the North Yorkshire Police Federation Fund for Andrew’s two sons, Jack and Sam.
Jack is 3 years old, he has recently started in reception class at school which he is enjoying. He loves to create things with Playdoh and likes to play games with his friends, pretending to be a shopkeeper.
Jack is beginning to understand that his Daddy won’t be coming home.
Sam is just 11-months-old and loves to play with noisy toys. Andrew was very proud when he saw Sam take his first steps, just a few days before he died.
Sam is far too young to understand what has happened to his Daddy .
Kathryn is now facing the prospect of bringing up Jack and Sam without the emotional, practical or financial support that Andrew would have given her.
We cannot replace some of those things but we know she has a close family who will do all they can to support her.
Where we can help is to secure a more stable financial future for Andrew’s family.
The aim of this fund will be to enable Kathryn to give Jack and Sam at least the same opportunities that they would have had if Andrew had been there to provide for them throughout their childhood, into adolescence and beyond.
Details of how donations can be made are being published on the North Yorkshire Police website. We would encourage anyone who makes a donation to also leave a message in the Book of Condolence on the website.

It is a source of comfort and pride for our family regarding the overwhelming support we have received. Andrew has always been a source of pride to the family, a loving husband and father and cherished son and brother.
Andrew was everything said of him and more. We are deeply hurt by this tragedy but would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their kind words and support.
We are hoping to find the strength from these to help us through this difficult time.
We will always cherish Andrew’s memory.

Andrew was a committed, enthusiastic officer who had recently transferred to North Yorkshire from Greater Manchester Police and was a very well respected and much-valued member of the force.
Most tragically, Andrew leaves a wife, Kathryn, and two young children, Jack and Sam who are understandably devastated by his death.
We are a force who care and we support each other and we wanted to do something appropriate to help Kathryn and the boys during this extremely difficult time and indeed in the future.
