SIMON DAWSON has won the Harrogate Open 2012 People’s Prize. The prize is voted for by visitors to the gallery and the £100 prize is awarded by the Friends of the Mercer Art Gallery who are the sponsors of the exhibition.
Simon Dawson won the prize with his painting Dappled Light in Birk Crag. Simon teaches art with his artist wife at their Harrogate studio. His work is based on a keen observation of life.
Simon said:
Whether it be light on a woodland floor or an amusing everyday scene, it’s life itself that is my inspiration.
Councillor Pat Jones, the Cabinet Member for Culture, expressed her delight with the enduring popularity of the Harrogate Open exhibitions:
People crowd in to see the show. The work is all of a very high standard and provides our visitors with a great deal of pleasure. There is a partuicular admiration for the fact that such a small district can contain so many talented artists.
There is still chance to see the exhibition, which is open until Sunday 20 January 2013.
The Mercer Art Gallery is currently open Tues to Sat 10 to 4, Sundays 2 to 4, closed Mondays except Bank Holidays. Closed for Christmas 23, 24, 25, 26 December 2012 and I January 2013
