Town’s journey to the North Welsh coast saw them gain a morale boosting victory ahead of Thursday’s momentous F A Cup clash at Hastings.
With Adam Bolder and Alan White serving suspensions, Paul Bolland and Matt Bloomer, made the starting eleven.
Town made the Seagull’s pay for a poor opening half hour with two goals from Tom Platt.
He scored after 13 minutes when he shot past the diving Chris Sanna from 25 yards, and then added a second 15 minutes later, with an acrobatic overhead kick from Bolland’s cross.
Shortly afterwards, Chib Chilaka almost made it three when his shot hit of the post, and Paul Beesley just failed to connect with the rebound.
Colwyn introduced Gaz Evans for Jon Breeze at half time and began to dominate.
On 69 minutes, Danny Lloyd pulled one back when he headed in Luke Holden’s deep cross.
Holden then missed a gilt edged chance to equalise when he headed wide ,after Frank Sinclair headed a free kick back across the area.
Jamie Rainford and Holden both shot narrowly over and Craig MacGillivray made a full length save to keep out Holden’s angled drive at the far post.
But Town were not to be denied, and sub Dan Clayton almost made it three with a shot that whistled just wide of the far post.It was a welcome three points for Town, which moved them up to 14th place in the league, with 3 or 4 games in hand of most other clubs.
