Mutual steps up community commitment

27 November 2012

Engage Mutual has increased its commitment to community activities through its ‘engage with your community’ initiative.

The Harrogate- based mutual organisation has a long- standing commitment to supporting community projects and fundraising activities in the area, having worked with Saint Michael’s for more than 15 years.

Engage with your community was launched earlier in the year as a way of providing assistance and funding to customers who demonstrate a similar commitment to helping good causes. These customers were invited to apply for one of three grants worth up to £5,000 which could be used to help them improve the voluntary services they were involved with on behalf of their local community.

Speaking of the initiative Tina Jessop, head of brand at Engage Mutual, said:

As a mutual organisation we are committed to supporting our local communities and good causes.

The aim of engage with your community is to encourage and reward customers who share similar values. We hope the funding and support provided through the initiative will mean that more communities can benefit.

After receiving applications from across the UK a judging panel, headed by Engage Mutual Chief Executive, Andrew Haigh selected three projects which it deemed to be the most deserving.

The successful applicants were Hillary Linsey from Cambridge, a volunteer with Cruse Bereavement Care which helps those struggling with bereavement. The second recipient, Kevin Scully, is a member of the Tower Hamlets Street Pastors an organisation which helps to make the streets of the local area a safer place. Janet Whitworth from Birmingham was the final beneficiary, she volunteers with CARES an organisation which provides respite care to those who care for a family member.

As well as providing funding Engage Mutual will work alongside each customer to provide support to ensure the aims of the project are successfully achieved.
