What a difference a year makes – camera club members raise competition bar

19 November 2012

What a difference a year makes! That was the verdict after Knaresborough Camera Club’s 2012 portrait competition night.

The club committee said photographs that would have secured high placings, last year, had been eclipsed by images of an even higher standard this time around. This meant members were putting into practice what they had learnt since last year’s event.

Local professional photographer Jill Archer, who judged the contest, said the competition bar had been well and truly raised with images that demonstrated a keen eye for composition, skilful cropping and superb use of natural and artificial light. She added: “The winning images are exceptional and inspiring.”

Chairman Richard Bryant said:

We’ve put a lot of effort into our programme to ensure that members gain valuable practical and theoretical insights and this is paying dividends.

The competition is proof they have taken the learning on board because the images have been truly amazing.

Our philosophy is about learning together. A competition like this shows that even people who are relatively new to the hobby can build their confidence in the right environment and gain much more from taking photographs.
