A paedophile who repeatedly abused two girls in York has been sentenced to six years’ imprisonment.
Andrew Seymour, aged 49, of Constantine Avenue, York, was jailed at Teesside Crown Court on Friday 19 October 2012 after pleading guilty to 13 charges including attempted rape, gross indecency, indecent assault and child cruelty, at an earlier hearing.
He was also given an indefinite Sexual Offences Prevention Order and will spend the rest of his life on the sex offenders register. He is also disqualified form ever working with children again.
Seymour abused his first victim when she was just three-years-old in 1978 and committed further offences against her up to 1987.
The other victim was also abused by Seymour over a two year period between 1986 and 1988. She was only 12-years-old when the abuse began.
Detective Constable Tracey Lumb, of York Protecting Vulnerable Person’s Unit, said:
These were appalling sexual crimes against two young children who couldn’t defend themselves and were terrified of Andrew Seymour.
The sentence handed down today reflects the horror of Seymour’s offences and, quite rightly, the judge sees prison as the only place for him.
The victims in this case have shown great courage in coming forward and I hope that they can now move on and try to rebuild their lives.
I also hope that other victims of sexual abuse can take strength from these two women and have the confidence to contact the police themselves.
