Thirteen vehicles damaged in A1 collision

10 October 2012

TrafficNorth Yorkshire Police are appealing for information about a large goods vehicle after a number of vehicles were damaged by debris on the A1.

It occurred at around 7pm on Tuesday 9 October 2012, on the north bound carriage at Londonderry near Bedale, when at least thirteen vehicles hit debris that had fallen from the large goods vehicle which did not stop at the scene.

The vehicles which were damaged include both lorries and cars, a number of which required recovering due to the extent of the damage.

Traffic Constable Tony Leonard, of North Yorkshire Police’s Roads Policing Group, said:

Thankfully, despite the large amount of damage that was caused to the vehicles, noone was injured as a result of the incident. However, I do need to speak to the driver of the vehicle which shed the debris onto the road. I urge anyone who can help to identify them to come forward straight away.

I am also appealing to the driver of the vehicle to contact the police as they may be unaware of the incident.

Anyone who can assist with this enquiry is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2 and ask for Tony Leonard. Alternatively information can be emailed to tony.leonard@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk quoting reference number 12120170284.
