A large contingent of Harrogate Harrier Juniors competed at the Northern Road relays in Leigh on Saturday 22nd Sept. In warm conditions the Harriers athletes competed against many of the best athletes in the North of England running around the grounds of the sports village.
Top performers were the U15 girls with the team of Millie Howard, Lucy Ireland and Lauren Woodhall finishing in 9th place and qualifying for the national finals. For the B team Claire Jones and Millie Gray also had excellent runs.
Ruth Jones ran the fastest time in the U17 women’s team to help them finish in 18th place, ably backed up by Ciara Martin and Louise Mcleman.
The U17 men’s team finished in 22nd place with solid runs from Nat Welsby, Harry Brook Taylor and Alex Gillies, whilst in the U15 boys, Owen Martin and Ed Burgess both ran within 10 seconds of each other.
The senior ladies team finished 27th overall with the senior men’s team finishing in 60th place to round off a successful day of racing.
The next 2 team events are the northern Cross country relays in Sheffield in October, and the national relays in November at Mansfield where we will have teams entered across all the age groups, and look forward to more success,
