Harrogate Town AFC 2 – 2 West Auckland

23 September 2012

Harrogate  Town Amateur Football Club – 22 Sept 2012

A goal deep into stoppage time left Town with a difficult replay on Tuesday evening.

With Jose Veiga and Paul Bolland ruled out through injury, Craig McGillivray made his debut and Alan White took over the captaincy.

West Auckland made a bright start, with Stephenson and Moffat creating an opening for Gardner, who fortunatley shot well over.

Chib Chilaka shot across goal when he was sent clear by McGillivray’s long clearance, but White and Adam Bolder made vital blocks to keep Wests out.

Harrogate began to play some excellent football and on 25 minutes Alex Meechan intercepted a short back pass, found Leon Osborne and Chib Chilaka completed the move, sidefooting into the net.

McGillivray was having a fine debut, making a tremendous save to turn a Stuart Banks deflected shot round the post.

But it was Harrogate who finished the half in the ascendancy, with Chilaka shaking the home crossbar and Mark Bell producing a brilliant save to deny Luke Dean.

Harrogate kept up the pressure at the start of the second half, with Dwayne Samuels shooting over the bar and Osborne had a header blocked before he too, was just to high with a rising drive.

Wests tall strike force of John Campbell and Matty Mottat were giving the visiting defence a torrid time, with Campbell missing with a free kick and Moffat heading at McGillivray.

With 15 minutes left Town seemed to be home and hosed when Chilaka shot into the corner after Osborne’s persistence down the right wing created the opening.

However,on 80 minutes, Adam Bolder was harshly ruled to have handled Campell’s cross and Campbell himself, made no mistake from the spot.

This was the signal for Wests to throw everything at Town.McGillivray saved from Adam Rundle and turned a Campbell effort over the bar.

As the match progressed into 3 minutes stoppage time,Town appeared to have weathered the storm, but the forwards gave away possession and keeper Bell’s long clearance was headed on to Moffat, who made no mistake with a powerful cross shot. The replay is on Tuesday evening, the 25th K O 7-45pm.
